Canoe Days Out

Lancashire - Leeds and Liverpool Canal - New Springs, Wigan to Just go as far as you like and return

How to get there - Just look on map. I have pinpointed it. For those with SatNav the postcode is WN2 1JS.

Get a map with driving directions to start (enter the postcode of your starting point at A)

Suggested Launch Site - At the end of Withington Lane park your car and walk around corner to canal, just after the last lock. You can then paddle for at least ten miles before reaching another lock.

General Description - This is a nice paddle going through some beautiful countryside, through a country park and past a golf course. I believe you can paddle as far as Chorley without meeting another lock so just go as far as you like and return. There is a pub (the Crawford Arms) after about 2 -3 miles right at side of the canal that serves food or if you are happy with a round trip of 10 miles you can go to the Bridge Inn at Adlington.

You can go a little further before meeting a lock. Just where the canal forks on the map there is a lock there. There are then 5 locks in quite quick succession ending with a lock next to the Top Lock public house, a nice pub serving real ales. After that you can carry on to Blackburn before you hit the next lock.
