Canoe Days Out

Middlesex - Grand Union & Paddington Arm - Southall (London) to Perivale & Return

This page was submitted by David Dooley (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - From the Greenford round-a-bout on the A 40 head south down the A 4127. At the Iron Bridge junction follow round to left, then right and left to continue southwards. After crossing the canal at Three Bridges where road, railway and canal cross, turn right into Tentellow Lane. Take the next turn right into Poplar Avenue. Poplar Avenue is blocked and becomes a footpath at the canal bridge. There is usually parking space for a few vehicles there.

For those with SatNav the postcode is UB2 4PN.

Suggested Launch Site - Cross over the bridge and launch on the left past the lock.

General Description - Paddle to the west to the Bull's Bridge junction (Tesco). Turn right under the bridge into the Paddington Arm. This will take you north through Southall, around Greenford and under the A 40 bridge. The canal passes the Northolt mosque on the left, then turns eastwards. After the tube bridge and the old Lyons basin on the right, the canal passes a popular pub at the Oldfield Lane bridge. You can continue through Perivale, past the Horsenden Farm recreation site (alternative launch point with toilets) for a possible picnic and turn point, or you can carry on to the Pleasure Boat at Alperton, or further.

From start to Horsenden Farm is about 8 miles. There are no locks.
