Gloucestershire - Gloucester & Sharpness Canal - Purton to Cambridge (& return)

How to get there - From Junction 14 on the M5 head northwest on B4509 for 0.3 miles. Turn right at A38 for half a mile. Turn left and and after half a mile turn left at Twyditch Lane. Continue for one mile then turn right at Halmore Lane. Continue straight onto Riddle Street. At Purton park in the carpark on the right next to the bridge.

Get a map with driving directions to start (enter the postcode of your starting point at A)

Suggested Launch Site - Launch from the wooden platform next to the carpark.

General Description - This trip of approx. nine miles has no locks or portages.

After launching, set off to the right. After the second swing bridge (operated by bridge keepers) turn right into the Cambridge Arm. You will immediately pass under a low swing bridge (no bridge keeper). A further mile takes you to the George Inn which was the formal end of the Cambridge Arm.

Alternatively refreshment can be obtained at The Black Shed Cafe Bar at Patch Bridge (the first bridge , two and a half miles from the start of the trip)
