This page was submitted by Andy Sadler (E-mail this submitter)
How to get there - Cathiron is roughly halfway between Coventry and Rugby.

From Junction 2 on the M6 - Exit the roundabout onto B4065/Hinckley Rd heading to Ansty. At Ansty turn right onto B4029 then after 3 miles turn left onto B4027/Coventry Rd. At Brinklow continue onto B4455/Rugby Rd then, as the road turns sharp right, turn left into Cathiron Lane.

The car park is on the left in half a mile.

Suggested Launch Site - Launch over the bank from the car park.

General Description - This trip is about 9 lock free miles but there is a tunnel (Newbold - 250 yards long with a towpath each side) to add interest

(We put in at Cathiron, where the local parish council have made a car park/picnic area beside the canal, making for a very nice put in/get out. we headed east and after about an hour, we reached Newbold Tunnel. The tunnel is well lit with multi-coloured lights, installed by British Waterways and Rugby Council in 2005. About another 30 mins later and we reached the picnic site at Brownsover, Rugby where we stopped for a brew before returning to the start.

Thanks for posting. I used to walk the towpath here in the mid 70s. Having just started kayaking I wanted to know if I could paddle here and your article is more than I could have hoped for and I will try it tomorrow ) Ray Malvern, Worcs.
